In April 2019, Congress passed the Taxpayer First Act which made it illegal for the IRS to create its own online system of tax filing. The IRS system would allow taxpayers to file their taxes on the IRS website without having to pay to use private tax filing services or software. Tax software companies including the maker of TurboTax and H&R Block lobbied congress to pass the bill. Countries including Spain, Denmark and Sweden use a “return-fee filing system that gives taxpayers pre-filled forms using information from employers and banks. Proponents argue that the free filing system would save a collective $2 billion and 225 million hours in prep costs and time. Opponents, including Intuit the maker of TurboTax, argue that such a system would cause taxpayers to make mistakes in their fillings and end up paying more in taxes.

@92N5JGD2yrs2Y
I would prefer them to find a way to make a flat tax work. Make it simple.
@michaelconnely2yrs2Y
Too many factors to answer completely.
@8ZKNSCP2yrs2Y
Yes, and I would prefer to abolish the IRS
@78S5M874yrs4Y
Eliminate taxes and abolish the IRS.
@85QWNPG4yrs4Y
Taxes should automatically be charged off the total balance of your bank accounts yearly income, this should also automatically be reported to the IRS for such a system to function. Any bad actors will be against this, it shows their true colors.
@8HZHSFW4yrs4Y
The IRS should use a return free filing system.
@7YFGPVT4yrs4Y
Yes, However, until income tax is eliminated, the tax filing industry should be abolished and annual prepared returns ended. There is sufficient reporting through businesses to know the earnings of anyone employed.
Freelance, contracted workers, and self-employers would still need to submit their earning on paper or through free, secure electronic filing system.
@RichardYRodgers4yrs4Y
Yes, but still allow other private tax filing methods as part of the free market
@8HDMV9J4yrs4Y
Yes, and simplify all filing systems
@8GR8N5C4yrs4Y
I do not entirely have an opinion
@8GBB4FJ4yrs4Y
Instead, change to a return-free filing method.
@7FQLNQT4yrs4Y
There is already a free electronic filing system.
@Finickydesert4yrs4Y
Yes, and the IRS should file it automatically like other countries
